| Thirty-year-old vibraphonist Gerry Grosz and his group, Jazz Kitchen, strike gold with their first CD, Onramp, (Up Late Records, P.O. Box 1269, El Cerrito, CA 94530), a smooth mix of ballads and more uptempo pieces from Grosz and sidemen Robin Lewis on seven-string guitar, Chuck Metcalf on double bass and drummer Curt Moore. Since graduating from Wesleyan University, Grosz says in his liner notes, his further education has included "Giving Up the Day Job 419" and "Schlepping Vibes through Record-Breaking Blizzards 602." If this debut CD is any indication, it was all worth it. |
